OP here. Yes, I much prefer agar texture to tapioca! But again, I'd rather make a Japanese agar dessert like an-mitsu.

Yes i do. I will get it as a snack because boba is filling, but sometimes I don’t get boba in milk tea or a fruit drink from a shop, not sure if that still counts as bubble tea.

I enjoy one occasionally as a novelty. But yeah, I wouldn't mistake it for great tea.

I discovered the white pearls at Gong Cha. Instead of the black tapioca, these are made with agar. Fewer carbs, better texture. It's definitely more refreshing than boba, especially if I get a fruit tea.

+1
Same- and I even get the low low sugar milk tea versions. They are still pretty disgusting.
Meanwhile I love Thai Iced tea. So go figure.

Yes, but only from certain places where it’s better quality. I usually go for the classic milk tea, 30% sugar, and boba. I am in NYC, so we have some good options.

Hate it. I don't like the slimy texture of tapioca.

I'm Asian and don't see the point. Tapioca is bland and chewy. The popping ones are artificial crap. I make cheaper and better tea at home. I'd rather have tea and a biscotti/whatever at a coffee place, when I'm out and about, all things considered. My teen son and daughter are the same. Yet all their friends are bubble tea crazy.

Are you a fan of bubble tea?
