He always struck me as a fundamentally decent human being who helped put a recognizable face on substance abuse and addiction.
One of his qualities as an actor was that he came across as eminently likeable. That's not always a blessing, but it sure made substance abuse look human.
I hope his memory remains a blessing to his family.
