I thought if you take Maths and Sciences only in AOS/AET, thats good enough or is it really that competitive that colleges wants to see Sciences and Maths from base schools as well?

The AOS/AET program operates on a part-time basis, requiring approximately half of the courses to be enrolled at the base school. In the AOS program, the choice of math courses is somewhat limited, mainly consisting of AP Calculus AB/BC, while other math options, such as AP Statistics or multivariable calculus, must be pursued at the base school. On the other hand, the AET program offers a broader range of AP math courses, but pre-AP science courses like Biology are required to be taken at the base school for the AET IT program. There are also restrictions on the number of courses students can enroll in each year at AOS/AET, necessitating the completion of additional math and science coursework at the base school.

It is not what colleges want to see, it is what's on each of the application they receive. If an applicant shows that they have enrolled in most challenging courses offered/available at their high school, then their application is more competitive than others who have done the bare minimum required for their program. The main advantage of AOS/AET is the Research course options, whereas for AP courses, a base school offers best flexibility and wider choice.
