UMD, Muhlenberg, Wheaton (IL-Christian college), PITT

I know UMD is not a safety for most, but, knowing they value stats-- high scores and weighted GPA, it seemed in likely territory.

Did they apply to schools that offer automatic admission/merit aid for the high SAT?

1560 last year. Didn't really have any since only 2 of 12 were in VA. Confident of admission to Pitt, UMN, Ohio St but also merit dependent so probably doesnt "qualify" in the true definition of a safety. Felt good about WM, Lehigh and UMD but a CS major so you never know.

Anyone know when the 10/11 results are available? The website says not until 11/1, but my kid says that she was told that it would only be a couple weeks. Seems like the website would be more accurate but I'm hoping that it is sooner so that we can use the results and submit her application this weekend.

1550/4.0 uw. Safety is in-state public flagship in flyover country.

Grades matter for categorizing reaches, matches, and safeties. Test score plays a smaller role now.

I feel like for most people (unless college $ is nothing to you), an elite school VS. a full ride at a strong state uni is not an easy decision.

It's good to have options. Good luck.

Great advice !

All 3 of my kids scored 1550+ We live in Virginia so their safeties were a combination of UVA/WM/VT. None of them got into HYPSM, but they did get into multiple top SLACs and various other top 20 schools.
They didn't apply to any of the automatic entry schools because they'd never attend and we were comfortably full pay.

Wooster, St. Olaf, Pitt. Safety to me means 99% certainty they get in.

Plus, SATs are a lot less important than rigor and GPA. Especially for high income kids. So 1550+ doesn’t give us enough to go on.

Safeties were UMD, George Washington, St John's College in Annapolis (tiny college with a classics curriculum that he liked). He got into one reach, all his targets, and then what did he do?

Go to GW

Is your child scored a 1550+ on the SAT, what is/was their safety?

Did they apply to schools that offer automatic admission/merit aid for the high SAT?
