It is a way to encourage kids to have fun with math and think about it a bit differently. Not everything is about TJ or college applications. DS’s rec soccer isn’t going to help him get into TJ or college either.
Elementary math contests (and camps like epsilon camp) are a great place to connect with like-minded kids and their parents. This can be a really big deal for gifted kids, who often struggle to find peers among their agematesAnonymous wrote:Elementary contests:

The "contest" isn't the important part. The practice is.
No one cares what score your kid got on an elementar school math contest. If the kid does well or improves over time, they are well prepared for future.
