Seems gimmicky in the age of ordering through an app and picking up. Here, you order through an app and it keeps the food warm before you retrieve it? That's the only thing I sew really different. Otherwise, you can order there but it will take 8 minutes to cook before going in the automat, which doesn't seem different than them just handing it to you.

The movie “That Touch of Mink” has some scenes set in an automat.

Yes, I’ve read about these in old novels. But I think the title of your thread is throwing potential commenters off. They were most popular following the Depression (1940s or so).
