You can tell a lot by a persons family.

If a spouse is not on board male or female with their spouses job and career not going to work.

And your spouse and kids better behave. The “cut of one’s jib” is important.

That's actually a salient point. How many CEOs and VPs are being interviewed with their families on-site? Is it at the 5th interview? The 6th? I saw a post a few weeks' ago about a person who had to travel to meet their boss and it turns out they were requested to meet with the CEO in surprise the same day.

Corporations do want to know you're surrounded by acceptable people.

Seems kinda messed up to ding a candidate based on their family. What if a kid is special needs? Or spouse has a disability? What if the candidate is single or lives with a partner?

Really weird to assess a candidate based on their family.

I can’t think of any that require it but all my jobs (tech) have had events where spouse/family were invited or allowed to attend.

Anything where you have to woo clients. Law partners, accounting partners.

My friends in the Foreign Service often attend events with their spouses. Usually its a gala, a cultural celebration, or other type of "fun" event at another country's Embassy or host country government or large company. Seems to be a pretty regular thing, as you get invites to a lot of stuff as a diplomat under the guise of "work."

I think this was fading when I worked at General Electric in the 1980s. I can't imagine where it would still be expected in 2023.

Politicians? Ministers?

You can often travel with another person as a conferences manager or a flight operations manager for a major airline. Alternatively look for jobs that will take you to different hubs with airlines.

Male-dominated professional industries where they spend a lot of time away from their families. Having events where you "bring a spouse" is really just a guilt-driven event for being away from your spouse so much.

Thing about it - it's a way to continue working while including your spouse. Pretty pathological.

What industries/jobs require spouse to attend events?

I am a professional who is paid for my skilled work, so my business and employers have never required me to bring my spouse to an event to mingle.
