I can only tell you what DC is doing, which is to take the pre-calc/trig route.

The poster who said Algebra II/Stats is a path to community college is a bonehead, do not listen to them. There are plenty of schools one can get into apart from CC.

Yeah this is off the mark, say that about calculus if you want, but pre-calc is just a solid HS education. My worry wouldn't be that this is used for college gatekeeping, but that it reflects an actual deficiency that will be hard to overcome later. Needless to say no one uses math they didn't learn, but there are topics in pre-calc that can be very useful, including for understanding statistics.

Most highly selective colleges require a stats class in college in certain majors. It would be better to take higher math in hs and then stats in college.
As for OPs question, yes of course you can find a college with that pathway, but you are choosing to take a lot of possibilities off of the list. It’s a very personal decision and no one here knows the profile of your kid beyond what you have shared

My college freshman is retaking pre-calc now with lots of others kids who either didn’t take it or didn’t do well enough on the college placement test. It depends on what you kid wants to major in. Stats is more useful in life but pre-calc is necessary for calculus so it depends.

Going up to Algebra 2 and Statistics is just fine. However, it also depends on the major.

Pre-calc is a typical sophomore/junior class, so I don’t think skipping it would be great for admissions.

Depends on the college. Competitive colleges want to see Calculus. Skipping even preCalc would not cut it.
