I love how RM is a school with what, 2500 kids and despite the OP asking about average, non-IB students, so many parents whose kids have straight A's feel compelled to tell us about it.

Most IB students earn As with a smattering of Bs.

The diploma programme is rigorous, fast paced, and has elements (IAs, EE) that require significant independence and hours outside of school. How stressful it it depends on the student.

Most kids also take the AP that corresponds to their IB course. They are enrolled in the AP classroom to have access to AP resources. They self study to fill any gaps that IB didn’t cover and practice AP style questions. Some teachers offer study sessions and resources near AP exams. Some students also self-study entire courses that they aren’t enrolled in, to take an AP test.

Most kids don’t just rely on the IB test because not all colleges take IB scores for credit, and the IB score rolls the IA into the grade. It is easier and more predictable for a student to score a 5 on AP than to score a 6 or 7 on IB, so they take the APs for insurance.

Technology teachers have 0 knowledge, have 0 interest in teaching, do not know how to work with (motivated) kids. Very invested in killing student interest in the subject. They should have been fired but school cannot find replacement or cannot fire.

Otherwise, it is wonderful program with very smart motivated kids who have goals, highly motivated and stay focused on school. The amount of work, self imposed desire to keep up does take a mental toll which teenagers are not good at managing.

I am curious about the technology teachers. At least the one my son has now is clueless. The kids can tell that she is clueless. What can a student and their parents do to make a change? It may be too late for my child but I am willing to work so that the next class don't suffer.

My 10th grader has all As, so are many of her friends. The program is very strong and intense. Lots of homework.

She has taken AP classes and has to study.

Program is extremely stressful.
RMIB kids do take AP and IB exams (mine took 16AP exams plus 6 IB).
RMIB kids do self-study some AP exams.
Most kids are crazy self-driven.

There are other magnet program than IB in RMHS?

Most of DC's friends who reveal their grades get mostly As with some Bs.

For college credit take APs. Yes they self study. It can be stressful with all the activities and if you have an early bus ride.

My dc and several friends got starigjt As.
