Their strength is allowing the team to run 5 on 5 or run through plays with opposition in practice. I think a good coach plays those kids a lot in blowouts and sparingly in close games

Are B teams more lenient about playing their bench? I can see why the top teams want to compete at the highest level but is the standard more lax for playing times at the B level?

Also, does who starts always matter?

Lazy coaches don't use their bench! I agree. Also, sometimes benches have very under utilized better players. But coaches have biases.

In county games, I'd hope it was rare that players sat on a bench. This isn't AAU.

The best coaches my kids have had (three boys who have played on FCYBL teams) always get everyone in the game for at least a few minutes. Lazy, bad coaches play their best 6-8 players only.

This is very much coach dependent. But I do think most coaches, even the good ones, will have a couple of kids that don’t get off the bench.

On tournament weekends, they are more likely to use most players at least for a few minutes to make sure their best players have rest.

But I’ve watched my kid sit the bench at all lot of games.

Any more than 10 players means low play time for kids at the end of the roster.

If they are markedly behind the top 6-8 players, then yes.

No one can answer that question, it depends on your coach. But its very hard to win a basketball game rotating 12 players.

Every organization that participates in FCYBL has their own rules on play time. There's no overall league rule. Some orgs require a quarter of playtime, some require 3 minutes per half, etc. BUT whether those rules are enforced at all by the orgs is highly unlikely. It comes down to the integrity of the individual coach, really.

May depend on the age, but, yes, there will be unequal playing time. This even happens at the younger ages where I have seen instances of 1-2 minutes of PT for an entire game/0 minutes for a half. I think our experience was the exception, though, not the rule.

But, yes, if your player is on the bottom third of the talent/roster, their minutes may be limited except in cases of blowouts.

But do certainly monitor if your kid is happy, not complaining about going to practices or to games. If they are enjoying it they may be getting a lot out of it. If they are new to this level, there is a lot to learn (plays, faster pace, quicker decision-making required, officials calling fouls, travels etc whereas in rec a lot is let go) or to get used to. Some kids will adapt faster than others for sure.
