Is it possible that they are culminating assignments that assess students on learning throughout the quarter? If so, I’m not sure when else teachers should assign this work.

This happened to me growing up. I anticipated it and did just fine.

I’m sure this has a lot to do with it. Students have to achieve a certain level of knowledge and ability before they are ready for certain assignments and assessments.

Students not ready to learn slowing down progress until a rush to catch up at the end of the quarter.

This is why we need textbooks so students who want to learn can maintain pace.

For DC some are unit test type things but others are things that could have been done earlier in the quarter. In their case it's not just that. It's also the number of assignments like for foreign language the pace of assignments throughout the quarter was 2-3 assignments per week and last week and this week it's been 7 each for a total of 14 assignments. Who does that?

At our school the administration works hard to emphasize to teachers not to do that and I think things were fine with my older child before the pandemic but I think there has been slippage after the pandemic because I noticed this year it's pretty bad.

Do you honestly think HS teachers of all subject areas all come together to determine what assignments they are giving and when?
