My situation is not exactly the same. I went part-time at my job when I had kids because I wanted to spend more time with them. I was also making mid-200s and took a 30k paycut. The decision for my family was more clear-cut and not risky. My DH is a fed so his job is stable. If I lost my job (worst case scenario), we can live on one income. Our home and cars are paid off. We don’t spend much in general.

I did this a few years ago, went from consulting to in-house. Hated the new side on the table I was on, responsibility wise, and was also incredibly bored without the stress and pressure. I went back to consulting lash year - I can see the game more clearly for what it is and can better manage my stress and workload.

I'm running into this issue, too, except it's $180 down to $160 and I"m the primary breadwinner in my family so it is a very significant amount to us. I'm really unhappy and I don't know what to do.

I just want to say I am in a similar situation as you (same tenure in my company and total comp) and have taken no action mostly because of my fear of losing money. Thanks for posting and hoping to hear insights from others.

Please explain to me how you arrived at this decision. My workplace of 10 years has become unhealthy and has had a lot of turnover lately. I am finding that other jobs are not willing/able to pay me as much as I currently make when you account for bonuses and profit sharing, which are pretty significant. Part this has to do with the fact that I am looking more in the nonprofit sector and smaller companies in hopes for a better quality of life. I would be looking at $30-40k per year haircut from about $240k down to $200k or maybe even a little less. I have young children so money is important and keep telling myself I would be crazy to give up so much money and just try another year, and another year, etc.
