Anywhere he wants. Anything above a 90 average at the cathedral schools is very high and difficult to get.

I agree with PP-- No way is anyone getting into UVA with a 92 average. There are obviously options other than VA state schools, but those are some poor grades to be talking Ivy admissions.

+1 on CNU for a B+ student with good SATs (to the extent colleges still give them any weight).

Yes it’s possible depending on the rest of the application. Not guaranteed but 92/93 is right around cum laude so academically they are competitive. Silly to say there is no shot. Last year is one data point but the year before saw multiple unhooked kids into Ivy and equivalents

URM yes. But the other I haven't seen. The tiny handful who get in unhooked are at the very top of the class academically (which is higher than a 92/93) and are generally also campus leaders. Not so much excelling in art or changing the world. The athletic recruits are an entire category entirely.

My impression is that it's really hard to say because there are so few kids who are not hooked in one way or another at STA. So it's hard to get a sense where one can get on stats alone since the pool is so small. I've heard that last year, out of 15+ Ivy admits only one was not a legacy or athlete. Many/most of those kids were also top students. So where does that leave a kid relying on grades alone? I'm not sure. What has college counseling told you?
