You don’t just go to the party.

Friend from school $54

Your entire family is invited, minimum $108, but usually $180

A bar mitzvah is not just a birthday.

True but not every family can afford to drop $200. It’s not as important to some of the guests as it is to the host family.

Mits not about the guests. It’s about the child going through a religious rite of passage that takes tons of preparations. Respect the process.

Multiples of 18 depending how well you know is a good guide. We also gave small gifts if close friends.

Thanks for asking! I am sure the family will welcome and appreciate whatever gift you give! We saw everything from $25 to $75 for kids friends attending on their own. All are welcome to join for the bar mitzvah service at the synagogue and whatever kiddush follows (usually ranging from challah and wine with blessings to adding cookie platters to a light brunch, depending on the customs there). Like with a wedding, only guests noted on the invitation are expected at the party (which may be later at night or follow after a kiddush or directly after the service). Right now especially your Jewish friends will likely really appreciate you showing up for them. Please don’t stress about the gift. That isn’t what this is about.

If you go with him at least $200 check. If your son goes alone at least $72 check.

If you are not named on the invitation you should not go.

Son’s school friend (13 yrs old) having a bar mitzvah. How much for a gift? Amazon gift card, cash in a card-how much? Not his best friend and we may also go with him.
