Did you try to appeal the original decision over the summer? That's usually the process.

I would if I had the ADHD results back then, unfortunately these took some time to be communicated to us by the health provider.

Interesting considering majority of kids aren’t testing as proficient in grade level math as it is- only 26% of 8th graders tested proficient nationally last yr

My son got an 81 percent for the exact same reasons- I'm fine with him being in HN. Middle school is enough of a transition. It's okay for him not to struggle through algebra.

The IAAT is an indicator of whether the student will be able to keep up or will get bogged down. Knowledge is good, so is fluency.

You are fretting over nothing. Repetition is wonderful for students—even seemingly easy operations. The students get stronger, faster, and more competent. They retain material for a longer time. Take it from me after asking classes of college students year after year: how do you calculate a range and why?… with a sea of blank stares reflecting back at me, one should be in no hurry to rush their students through fundamental math classes. Can we talk about ow FCPS used PERCENTILE not KNOWLEDGE for Algebra qualification?! That's insane!

Does she have a 504 for extra time? If not, time to get her one.

My 7th grader got 80 at IAAT last year and advanced score in Math7 SOL.

My kid is very strong at math, the only thing is that she works slower than other kids because of ADHD. That was the reason she didn't pass the 91 in IAAT which is very fast paced standardized test (and therefore in my opinion, it shouldn't be the only metric to determine if a kid can be placed in Algebra 1 next year).

Regardless she started with Math 7 HN this year and the material looks very easy to her. She has perfect scores so far and the teacher goes back all the time to review material from Math 7 as some kids are not AAP in the class. She also says that the material is not challenging and that she would rather be in Algebra 1.

Is there a way to request to be bumped to Algebra 1 at this stage, given that she nearly missed the bar because of her ADHD?
