Which benefits and which school? We use my MCPS insurance because the highest Cigna plan covers way more than my spouse’s private school Aetna plan for less $$ annually.

I'd rather not name the school but I also have Cigna Choice.

The best part about working in private school will be getting paid year round and not filling out time sheets. You will feel so modern!

How does retirement compare?

One benefit at private school is your child can attend for discounted (or sometimes even free) tuition. That can be a big benefit if you have school-age kids.

How does one go about finding these jobs?
Do you just go to the private school websites and search?
What schools are know for supporting teachers?
Thanks for any insights

You will make less money but students may not have the number of SEL issues that occur in public schools.

You don’t know if OP would make less money. It depends on when they entered MCPS. A private school will acknowledge all of your years of experience whereas MCPS does not. I make less in MCPS than I did in private school.

Start here: https://www.carneysandoe.com/find-a-job/

By the time local private schools post an opening they have already combed through Carney. Southern Teachers Agency is similar, but not as popular in this area.

There are also several job fairs specifically for area private schools, including some just for people of color. Keep an eye on this website:

Really? Some of our most industrious teachers are from local public schools. They’re so grateful and are used to having to deal with bigger classes and less planning time. Also, they know they are at will employees and will need to get their contract renewed annually. You can’t coast in the same way as a tenured teacher in Mcps.

Association of independent schools - go to their jobs site.

But please don’t be a lazy teacher! We just hired two former mcps teachers and they never grade anything on time

Agree.
Teachers and students aren’t safe anymore in public schools.

Understand that private school positions typically pay less than MCPS and pretty much always have substantially poorer benefits.

I know some veteran teachers who have made the transition. They are all in a good place financially due to spouses, parents, or prior careers.

I know many more who left teaching all together. DH returned to his prior career. He says he misses students, but not much else. He’s considering volunteering with NSBE, Jr. next school year when we have an empty nest.

I’m exploring my feelings. I could transition to another role in MCPS and be in the place I’d rather be financially compared to private school teaching.

Thanks for asking this. I am taking some time off for my mental health and I’m not sure what to do next.
