What is with some of the comments on this?

OP, how active is your family? Go for bike rides together, take a family walk after dinner, toss the frisbee, hit the playground - whatever, you should all be getting outside together every day.

Have you had an OT or PT evaluation?

There are lots of ways to be active that don’t involve running or team sports. Some possibilities to consider:

Swimming
Walking/Hiking
Dance (you can find youtube videos on ALL kinds of dance, from hiphop to haka, ballet to ballroom, etc.)
Gymnastics
Ice Skating/Roller Skating
Martial Arts
Rock Climbing
Biking
Frisbee
Hula Hooping
Jump Roping
Fencing
Ping Pong
Parkour
Yoga
Aerobics
Just playing at a playground

Are you willing to be active too? You might have better luck if instead of telling him he needs to run you ask him to walk/bike around the neighborhood eith you. Instead of asking him if he wants to sign up for a baseball team you could see if he wanted to toss a ball or frisbee around with you. Suggest a family swim, skate session, or bowling sometime. Play Follow the Leader, Mother May I?, Simon Says, and Charades with him.

Ballet was good for my similar boy. Lots of praise and not super intense.

My nephew was that way but he loved spending time with his grandfather. His grandfather would take him golfing. My nephew loved the attention and the sundaes they would get at the clubhouse after they finished. After a while, his grandfather stopped getting a golf cart and they walked the entire course with their rolling bags. No complaints because my nephew loved the one-on-one attention. Anyway, my nephew has won tons of golf tournaments over the years and is in great shape. He caddies for others in the summer to make money.

How old is he? And, does he have any pains? If he is taller and thinner, it can hurt to run because some kids just have no cushion. Maybe consider hikes instead.

Find something he likes. Might take some doing.

I would keep bringing him to whatever activities you think he might enjoy most and eventually he will feel comfortable enough to participate if it’s a shyness/confidence issue. Try playing with him one on one to build confidence. How old is he?

Some people are just lazy and prefer to be sedentary.

DS would happily be in front of a screen all day. But we don’t want that so he plays baseball, swims and does other things as well. Would he choose to if he had the choice? Probably not, but in the end he’s happy that he does these things.

Is confidence the problem? Or is he lazy? Will he do yoga if you put it on the tv in the living room and he can do it in the privacy of his own home? Are you insisting on group sports, or will he go ride his bike or run around the block?
