I lived in a dull Midwestern suburb and subconsciously longed for the city. When I had my first job in NYC and moved into a shared apartment in a poorly-maintained brownstone, it felt like coming home. Graffiti, basketball courts, public housing. Usually in black and white. Does anyone have similar memories? What was this? I grew up in a regular old middle class Midwest town, so this is baffling to me.
