The airwalk soles are much better than I remember from the 90s, but no they're not squishy and don't have arch support. The combat boots are generally comfortable from the start, but they also are tight around the ankles and calves since you tighten the laces, but the oxfords are definitely stiff at first.

They weren’t comfortable in the ‘90s when my feet were young and able to tolerate more. I can’t imagine wearing them now, but one of my kids does and he doesn’t complain. I value comfort a lot more now.

No, i just got a pair and they are heavy and not comfortable. I'm hoping in 10 years they will be broken in.

Definite break in period. You have to be committed. It took me some time in the 90s, and has been said upstream, I loved them.

My Blundstones are much more comfortable than my Doc Martens.

It varies. The sandals that I had last summer were comfortable from the start — but the soles were quite worn pretty quickly. I tossed them, and hadn’t worn them all that much. In contrast, I’ve had boots last for over a decade — and the soles are still fine. They definitely take a few weeks — or more — to break in, but then they’ll be quite comfortable and a bit bouncy. For a first pair, try getting sueded leather or softer leather instead of the much stiffer leather that you’ll see for some of the combat boot styles.

Omg!! I just got doc marten Chelsea boots and I regret them so much. They are torture. There’s no cushion which is not so bad but the upper is SO stiff and thick it is horrible. Maybe you can pick mine up at goodwill.

I remember distinctly in the 90s: No they were not. Blisters, sore toes, etc. But they had lots of style points, so we suffered.

I have a Chelsea boot doc marten. It has a break in period for sure. It even says it in the card it came with. It took a week or maybe even 2 before it felt comfortable. I imagine it’s the same with their other shoes.
