He and his friends had less than stellar outcomes. One ended up being a musician, knocked up an English girl and then he and his family spent a very hefty amount of money trying to obtain parental rights as non-Brits. You'd probably find a similar mix out of Walt Whitman, but without the hefty price tag and the azaleas.
You do realize that decades-old experience is not directly relevant here? And if you think it is, my step-brother attended in the 80s, went on to Dartmouth, started and sold two companies, and now is running his third and is an internationally recognized expert in his field, and credits Landon for giving him his initial love of learning and drive to excel. I’m sure there are others like your ex and others like my brother, all equally irrelevant to today’s student body.
