FWIW, we loved this AirBnB in Venice for our family of 6:

And will require a second mortgage on your house.

It's also on a separate island from the main tourist sections of Venice like San Marco; that could be good or bad depending on what you are looking for. With such a large family, I'd probably look for a flat as well. We rented two adjacent rooms in Italy, but we were a family of 4 and the kids were teens.

Yes it’s on a separate private island but the hotel has a free private boat that runs every 30 minutes and will take you directly to San Marco square within 20 minutes. It worked out great for us.

We just stayed at the JW Marriott in Venice last month and were really happy with it. Of course it wasn’t cheap but also wouldn’t personally categorize it as crazily expensive for a major European tourist hub. We we paid ~800/ night for accommodations for a family of four.

Rome has some great AirBNBs for families. We are staying in one in Monti this summer.

We stayed at Stendhal it was nice but we felt it was too cramped for our family even with double rooms. In the future will book an airbnb.

We stayed at Hotel Artemide https://www.hotelartemide.it/en/
DH and I had a double and our 3 kids had a triple.
Great breakfast buffet that kept our teens well-fed, and complimentary minibar in room that was restocked daily.
Great location, could walk everywhere.

Look at the family suite at Hotel Smeraldo in Rome. We loved it when we stayed there in 2022.

Rome and Venice

You should look at AirBNB. Get a house, unlimited wifi, kitchen and washing machine. Our family of 5 avoids hotels where possible.
