This makes sense to me. We need to make sure people get the rose colored view of ncsa’s out of our heads. The next great group of age group swimmers will rise out of imx.

I don't even know what this means?!?

Lol, this poster is an IMX troll. There is a meet in January in Hampton, VA where you need a certain amount of points to qualify and the swimmers have to race each of the strokes and IM (the distances of the events vary by age group). You get points based on your times in each of the IMX events. Essentially it encourages swimmers, particular those that are ES and MS aged, to be well rounded and not just focused on a particular stroke or event because you won’t be able to qualify for the meet if you aren’t at least proficient in all the strokes. I think IMX is valuable for that purpose, but by HS it’s importance/relevance is pretty diminished.

Be thankful. it is the same week as our spring break this year. My kid already decided to skip in favor of spring break but I am sure he will still grumble when the time gets closer. No way was I spending spring break in Orlando.

I’ve been going to this meet long enough to have seen different meet formats with 10&u (midday session/ morning with older kids) and it is time to drop this age group. The meet has grown significantly and just can not handle the numbers. Agree with others, meet is unnecessary for this age group and this is the most logical solution.

In reality a 10&U should not be doing a travel meet. It is a lot of money. Travel meets should be for the older kids and give them that experience of team travel.

+1 Not developmentally appropriate.

I heard it was because the meet got too crowded. I think it was simply too easy for the 10u to qualify, especially since there are single age cuts, and you only need one. It was getting to the point where basically all the half decent 10u swimmers at our club with spring birthdays were qualifying (because they were always at the top of their single age “group” every year). Many kids who were basically BB swimmers but blasted a fast 50 free or 50 back one time and therefore qualified. Not to undermine that accomplishment, but the meet was getting huge.

Seems like they could have solved this problem by lowering the qualifying times or requiring qualification in at least 2 events.

I had heard rumblings about this last year. Instead of NCSAs I’m guessing the clubs in this area will do Eastern Zones instead. Trading Orlando for Rochester, NY in March is kind of brutal though!

Our club attends NCSA Age Groups every year, but they dropped the 10&u session this year. They are now looking for a different meet. Anyone know if this is a permanent change?
