Our school is doing PreACT for sophomores today, not PSAT.

It would be a mistake for a 1500 scorer to skip the PSAT.

My kid scored a 1510 last year in Aug after some prep. With no additional prep, took PSAT and is a NMSF.

(Later in the spring, took a school day SAT and score increased another 30 pts on English, again with no additional prep.)

I’d advise your DC to not opt in to the student search service so your DC can avoid all the advertising. But that’s personal preference.

no disadvantages if PSAT score comes in 1300 or even lower...
no disadvantages of not taking it as well


I’d consider it a disadvantage to miss out on a good shot at Commended or NMSF.

If your DD gets a score in the 1300 range, she will probably receive a National Merit Letter of Commendation which she can put on the awards section of her college application.

If your DD scores higher, she might get other awards.

This is the only reason for her to take it right now.
