I have always been strict about seatbelts, so when kids get into my car I won't pull out of the driveway or wherever I am until they buckle up. And some of them get in and start chatting and don't immediately buckle up, so I'm guessing they don't in their family cars either.
Are we not trying to keep our kids alive? Is this not the same generation of parents that kept their kids rear facing forever? I'm confused. Have you given up? This is a basic safety thing. It's so easy. And yes they should buckle up on the 1 mile drive to school. You can be in an accident anywhere, not just the highway.

I’m making a mental note and hope that my kids will never ride in those kids’ cars when they are old enough to drive.
