OP here. Maybe annoyed isn’t the right word, but we just felt a little bit weird after we put effort into the meal, dressed decently well ourselves. Obviously not a big deal, but I think we just were probably expecting jeans at least!

Is what it is.

Are all of your dinner parties… nice (for lack of a better word)? Maybe they thought it was a casual neighborhood get together. We have casual get together’s all the time and nobody dresses up. Sweats, yoga, pants, jeans, logo T-shirts are all usual.

What i think is that you are the problem - people can wear what they want.

I think I’d just wear what I would if I were going to a Super Bowl party or something similar; so jeans.

I might be surprised, but never annoyed.

Also, FWIW my mom and I (Gen X) have different ideas of what are sweats. there is an abundance of loungewear that I would not go running in or wear to the gym.

NP. I agree it doesn't matter, but it also tells you something about them. If you'd wear the same thing to a dinner at someone else's home as you would for cleaning out the garage, you are lacking in social intelligence.

+1
It’s just you. And if this annoys you then maybe they should take another long break from you and not see you in a long while.

That wasn't the question they was asked.

Invited one of our neighbor friend couples over for dinner; hadn’t seen them in a while. Maybe it’s just me, but I was a bit annoyed that they both showed up in sweats. Obviously wasn’t some fancy dinner, but I guess I figured they would dress a bit nicer.

What do you think?
