My problem with Tesla is that I don't trust them. I'm sure this settlement will be appealed and reduced because that's how our system works. Either way, big companies seem to have endless funds and these big dollar settlements never seem to affect much besides paying the mortgages on lawyers' beach homes.

The 00:55 post is a separate incident from the OP's post. In that case the driver was found to be 67% at fault and Tesla 33% at fault. Tesla is appealing. Tesla is also appealing the case that the OP has referenced.

It's not a loophole. When you press the button for self driving it says "Supervised" and gives a warning that you have to be ready to take over. You are still responsible for driving the car. This "excuse" would never work. You still have to have insurance on a self driving car as well. Your insurance is valid while it is in supervised self driving mode.

You can find a ton of examples online of situations where the car saved the driver from bad accidents. I had one of these situations. I had on FSD and was turning right into a shopping plaza. The car waited and did not turn right and I was thinking, why isn't it turning. Then a bike came whipping by me on the right on the sidewalk. I had not seen this guy at all on the sidewalk and it's almost 100% certain that if I had not been on FSD I would have turned and he would have crashed right into me (and he was going really fast).

There are many other examples like this out there.

This happened in 2019. FSD was very unreliable back then. It has improved vastly since then.

Somehow this guy let the car go way over the speed limit. The car says it is an assistance feature so he shares some of the liability. They did also sue the truck driver who pulled out and got a settlement from him as well (as he shares fault as well).

Has anyone been following this? I hate the idea that the rest of us (non Tesla owners) are involved in an involuntary experiment with Tesla autopilot and their moron owners. Yes the autopilot failed, but why were they even trusting it???! Guy was going 15 over on a road the autopilot shouldn’t have been used on. And he never grabbed the wheel or braked at any point.
