CogAt, not COGOT. If you don't even bother with a google, what can I say?

I’m strongly anti-prep but now that FCPS has moved to local norms, the assumption at many high SES schools is that parents are prepping their kids. The unprepped 132-140 99% is now considered average, compared to the prepped scores of 140+. My kids are in AAP but the local shift happened right before my younger DC was being considered for AAP and I regret not prepping them bc the process would’ve been smoother.

Yes, doing practice tests even online, will radically improve your scores.

It's only the most important test your child will ever take! It sets the framework for whether your child will get the best education and sets them on the path towards future success. If you're not cheating the COGAT, you don't love your child.

and you are what a self procalimed under prepper?

if you sent your kid to a preschool or bought a manipulative toy or had the kid read a book before the kindergarten teacher assigned one or bought any kind of workbook on amazon, you are a prepper.

They'll do practice questions at school. My second grader said they are working through a packet at school for the test that is next week.

Yes, it's computer based. And I personally think there is nothing wrong with letting your kid be familiar with the structure. You want them to feel confident.

Its computer based. There's almost no arithmetic or need for paper. The only thing I can think of might be number patterns, and that's a stretch.

The teachers will give the students some practice questions before the test so they will be familiar with the format. You don't need to "give your DC a sense of the test".

We got notification from the school that the COGOT will be given very soon. I wanted to give my child a sense of the test so it's not the first time they're seeing it, but I also want it to give me a honest evaluation of their skills, so we haven't "prepped". We didn't prep for the NNAT and I actually found that to be very helpful, as I felt like it gave us a good picture of their abilities.

My question is, is this test done on a computer? Bubble sheets? Are they allowed scratch paper? The examples I saw online included a section with a lot of arithmetic and I'm wondering if they will be able to work it out on paper or do it all in their heads.

Thanks!
