Well, folks would've said the same about Central Park ages ago. All the NYC parks are oases in urban areas. We're not talking about Walden Pond.

My daughter graduated a couple of years back and had a great experience, HOWEVER the school is facing serious financial issues, which include the termination of tenured professors, elimination of certain sports and activities, as well as an extreme reduction of available curricula.

Know a very good faculty member there. If he's any indication, the faculty is strong.

I’m an Alum and a local Bronx kid.

Also have a sibling that is an alum.

Both of us earned our undergrad and grad degrees at Manhattan.

Granted this was a generation ago.

I studied math and cs - sibling studied Engineering.

We lived in the area and commuted.

It cost 150.00 a credit so approx. 4500.00 per school year.

We both had amazing ROI on our investments.

I was an early tech software guy and sibling became an exec. at a Fortune 1000 firm.

To me that is what Manhattan did best. Took kids from modest backgrounds and educated them and put them on their path.

I realize my post has an antiquated experience but for folks of my generation that is what Manhattan was known for - it was a good engineering school that you could afford.

And the neighborhood at the time was a working class Irish neighborhood - not what I would term rough or sketchy - but it was the Bronx so you knew to keep your wits about you.

My kid submitted an app, and I would love to hear any experiences as well.

Fordham alum - Van Cortlandt Park isn't amazing but I would sometimes play tennis with a friend who lived nearby, and it felt safe enough. We would sometimes go to the strip of Irish bars on McLean Ave on the other side of the park.

I know about 3 people who have gone there for engineering. Didn’t hear any complaints from them. That was awhile ago.

I read that they took quite a hit during the pandemic and don't have a great endowment ($150m?). They also just sold one of their dorm buildings for $18m.

How many years ago? Manhattan College is located between the Bronx neighborhoods of Fieldston (think Cleveland Park, Wesley Heights) and Kingsbridge (there is no DMV equivalent). Kingsbridge runs along the 1 subway line, is very commercial, and seems kind of gritty if you are not familiar with an urban environment. But if you are, then you're not phased by it. There is also a great urban oasis - Van Cortlandt Park - for students to enjoy.

I had family that went there many years ago—smart boys who did not have great HS grades for the typical smart boy reasons. They liked it and went on to good grad schools. But that was many years ago. At the time, the neighborhood was pretty rough.

I used to be a teacher, and one of the smartest, sweetest kids I ever taught went there.

I had a friend from HS go there. It's small and religious.

We will be visiting but curious if anyone has had a student at Manhattan College. It seems like it could be a good less-selective option for a student who wants a smallish community in a city-adjacent location.
