Our daughter goes to Madeira. It is not all that close, but we think it is worth the commute. And the more Alexandria families who go, the more carpooling options there would be. : )

But the shuttles may cost extra and have limited spaces (so sign up for them early.) Our school was not clear about either of these two issues and people were surprised about the extra expense and left without the option of the busses because they waited too long to sign up.

As already mentioned, There’s really only two private school options for high school in Alexandria, BI and SSSAS. Both are decent well-rounded schools.
If you are open to DC schools some offer bus service. Field has a bus both ways and Burke has a morning bus (from Arlington or Georgetown). Plenty of kids also take Metro.

Maybe look into which schools have transportation? You're only options in the city are SSSAS and Ireton. Academically, I'd go with SSSAS of these two, but it comes with its own challenges in HS. I've know people in Old Town who commuted to Madeira, Potomac, St. Albans, Gonzaga, Visitation, etc. For four years, it's manageable.

Bishop Ireton has a great theatre department. Honestly, the public schools nearby have crazr good theatre programs (West Potomac in particular).

SSSAS is as strong in sports as most DC privates. Ireton is in WCAC. Whether your kid can make teams at either is another question

Episcopal High School is by far the best high school in Alexandria. Unfortunately, they don’t take day students. I really wish that would change!

No “top” high schools in Alexandria. BI and SSSAS are good but not in the same class academically as Potomac, STA, NCS, Sidwell, Maret and GDS. Try Potomac if you want top on this side of the river. Both BI and SSSAS do have good sports and theater though.

We’re in Alexandria and not sure if we’re up for the DC drive. Looking for a nearby school that is strong in sports and theater.
