Chesapeake center. They will test for a wide range of concerns or a more narrow range depending on your situation (asd, speech therapy, dyslexia, general IQ, adhd, etc). Was worth every penny we paid them.

This doesn't make sense. A neuropsych exam will be much more thorough than a pediatrician's diagnosis.

Dr. Julie Smallman at Daisy Pascualvaca is wonderful. They’re not in MoCo, but it’s close.

Who told you you needed to still go through the pediatrician? We took our neuropsych evaluation to the psychiatrist for meds. He read the report and observed my child in our first appointment, but needed nothing else. We just informed the pediatrician. If you need services at school, you might have to jump through additional hoops, but that would be true regardless of where or how your child was diagnosed.

Do you mean psychoeducational assessment? IME, psychologists who do therapy don’t usually do assessments.

There are also places like Chesapeake ADHD which specializes in ADHD assessments. It’s a little cheaper than a neuropsych but if you suspect anything else is going on, like ASD or anxiety, that may be out of their scope.

I’m not sure what you mean about the pediatrician. Part of a neuropsych evaluation includes Vanderbilt questionnaires from teachers and parents. But if a neuropsychologist gives an ADHD diagnosis, that’s definitive. If you want medication, you have to go through the pediatrician or a psychiatrist and they would want a copy of the report, but they wouldn’t do further testing.

Lisa Martin at Empower Associates was good at digging in to figure out what was going on with my kid, whose giftedness was making it difficult for his teachers to see his struggles.

We had a terrific experience with Elizabeth Cutner. She was great with our child and wrote a thorough report.

We need to determine whether our 13 year old has ADHD and need to schedule neuropsych testing for him. Does anyone have a provider to recommend in Montgomery County? I think we are ok to just pay for this -- waiting for an slot that insurance will cover is likely to take a really long time and this kid is a mess right now.

Thank you for any suggestions.
