Typhoid vax never bothered me. Yellow fever did, COVID did. Yellow fever was bad!

It makes my arm hot and sore. I agree that the COVID booster and Shingles vax are way worse. I also generally tolerate vax well.

OP. That would be my luck. Hope your friend wound up okay. Thanks everyone for the responses. It doesn’t sound as bad as some other vaccines and I will look into the oral option which I didn’t know about.

I actually just returned from a travel clinic and chose this. I was told the oral pills are effective for five years and the shot just two.

I didn't get sick from it. You can do tablets too, if you don't want the shot, but if I recall there was something complicated about that -- not sure what it was.

No side effects with it for me. My friend didn’t get vaccine and got typhoid and ended up hospitalized in the foreign county.

I got it before a trip to India. My arm was sore, but it could have been because I got two other shots at the same time. No other effects at all. And PP is correct - it comes as a shot or oral. I believe the shot lasts for 2 years and oral for 5.

There is an oral (pill) typhoid vaccine. It lasts longer than the needle version. I had zero side effects.

My DH got a typhoid vaccine recently for a trip to Africa and didn’t have any side effects.

Lol South America is a big place. Where exactly? I’ve been all over the continent and have never been vaccinated for typhoid.

Husband and I are thinking of traveling to South America for a week and I see that CDC recommends the Typhoid vaccine. Anyone BTDT and should I plan to be sidelined a few days afterward?
