I know many in our physician community who pay mortgage of or supplement retirement of their parents. Surprisingly, this is a diverse bunch, Caucasians, Asians, Africans and Hispanics.

In my experience only Asians and very low-income families do this.

It's normal for non-immigrant's children. They actually get their college and/or first house paid for by their parents.

It's not normal for immigrant's children. You are expected to help after your parents' sacrifice.

I know several people who bought homes for their parents in their 20s/30s. All were East Asian either 1st/2nd generation.

Do your parents expect you to help them financially?

I don't know about other countries, but most 30 somethings in the US aren't providing financial assistance to their parents. In this day and age, it's usually the other way around.
