Weed out kids? What does that mean?

OP back to report that at least these two teachers send them to all students and plan to do that every quarter.

If your kid is well behaved, does well enough, and doesn't have an IEP you can go years without contact from a teacher

It's school and teacher dependent just like everything in FCPS. No idea why they call themselves a school system. It's for money allocation only.

We knew about them because Teachers have mentioned in weekly emails that they were coming home. We emailed the Teacher in first grade because we didn’t get one but she had mentioned it in the weekly email, we thought that DS had lost it. That is when we learned that they were sent to some kids and not all of the kids.

Immersion in first grade tends to be very strict, at least our Immersion program was very strict. No one liked the first grade LA Teacher, even after the one retired, the new one was disliked. I think it is because they have to cover so much and they need the kids to be more focused faster to do what they need to do. Good luck! we love the immersion program but the first year can be more challenging for some kids.

A lot of first graders need to work on self control. I wouldn’t worry too much but email or schedule a meeting at parent conferences if you want to talk. They are usually at the end of the quarter for parents with concerns.

We received an interim report every single quarter, all through elementary school for my son with ADHD that said similar. We knew he needed to work on self control. It wasn’t until our second child got to elementary school that we realized every child doesn’t get these.

Both are in high school now and doing fine, with no teachers contacting us about behavior.

What level of concern would prompt one?

I don’t think that there is a specific criteria that is shared across Teachers. If the Teacher sent one home then they are telling you there is an issue. I would send an email to the Teacher and set up a conference to discuss the issue. Assuming that you are the parent with the child having self control issues then it is a chance to ask how to work with the Teacher to work together to help your child.

There’s no set level. Some schools require every student receive one, some schools don’t. Some teachers utilize the interim some communicate via email or phone, some use both. It varies.

Does everyone get an interim report in elementary? DD is in first grade. There are no academic concerns and the narrative was really positive but self control was checked as an area that needs improvement. I’m not that surprised by that - we’re working on it. Thanks in advance.
