Stuffy nose and itchy eyes that are worse every night when he goes to bed and wakes up in the morning. Its year round. The allergist also suggested allergy shots which sound way better than taking Flonase so often but I'm having a hard time imagining taking a 7 year old to get a shot every week for a year.

Allergy shots don't always work.

If you have carpet, vacuum everyday. Consider installing new carpet & vacuuming everyday if hard wood is too expense or difficult to install.

We removed our carpet and everyone's allergies improved.

Agree with the air cleaner suggestion. You will want one with a HEPA filter. Same with your vacuum cleaner.

that would most likely be your kid's allergy symptoms flaring. If you have dust mite allergies, it is really best to just remove all rugs/carpet from the house---you will never regret that choice

Yes, it makes a huge difference.

Moved last year from a 15 yo home (carpet was less than 5 years old), we ran HEPA filters/vacuum daily/etc. We moved into a newly renovated home with out any carpet.
Everyone's allergies improved greatly

For example, in previous home, the litter box was vacuumed every day, and every day I was always getting litter sounds even with 2-3 mins of vacuuming. Well once you go to hard wood/tile everywhere you actually see/feel the litter and all the crap on your floor. Basically the carpet traps stuff, no matter how well you vacuum/how often you do it/etc.

If you can only afford the bedroom, at least do the kid bedroom now so they get to sleep in a space that is allergen free

Yes carpet is terrible for allergies so remove it.

yes! Get the carpeting out! Hard floors are the best for keeping things clean.

YES. And when you see what comes out of the carpet they remove, you will understand why.

We had new carpet (installed when house was for sale) and had it professionally cleaned twice in four years. Basically: probably the best-case scenario for how clean it was. Used an Alen air purifier in the room.

If you have allergies and carpet, nothing you do to the carpet is meaningful. Remove it.

Air purifiers and a daily roomba run helped more than carpet removal.

It helped me, along with running air purifiers in the bedroom and main room, and pillow cases made to help prevent dust mites. Start with other less expensive interventions.

My parents did this when I was young and yes, it did make a difference.

Do you have a good air purifier in his room? I put a bigger than necessary purifier from Blue Air in my son's room and it has helped.
