Tough to compare because crimes are tracked differently. But homicide is pretty consistent. 141 in London in 2021. 209 in DC so far this year. And yes those are total. London has a population approximately 13 times larger than DC.

So a murder rate per capita of about 25 times higher in DC.

St James Park in front of Buckingham Palace is a nice place to stroll with the kids and let them run around and play.

I’m here now and can’t believe how crowded it is. Everywhere. The weather has been perfect, pleasantly warm and dry.

Take the tea bus (double decker bus that serves tea. There is also a kids version (Peppa the Pig or Paddington Bear). My kids are older but we did the holiday light version last December and they loved it.

We recently went with my 4 and 6 year old, so older but still. We had the absolute best time, and felt extremely safe. For the 1.5 year old, can you baby wear? We took our double stroller everywhere but my kids hopped in and out of the stroller and DH lugged the stroller up and down the stairs of the metro multiple times a day.
All those suggestions above are great. The museums are free. Make reservations for everything! The science museum has a section called The Garden that the kids had so much fun at.

You could go see the dinosaurs at the natural history museum but honestly they aren’t as nice as the dinosaurs here. The older one might like the eye? There is a playground next to it too.
Hyde park has paddle boats to rent and an ice cream stand. Also very pretty gardens if you want to take photos of them.

OP here: We are going to other parts of England wales after London. Total trip is 12 days but 4 days in London.

Can you leave them at home with a caretaker? Four days doesn't seem worth the disruption to schedules.

Sorry, Play base is at National Army Museum. I’m not big on military history, but my toddlers *loved* it there.
