My child had at Pyle had classes with fewer than 20 but some also up to 30. Really depends on the class.

28-32 on average, but a few won the lottery and wound up with 18-20.

Private schools will almost always have fewer kids per class.

I teach at Parkland and have an average of 30 students per class - but it depends on what is being taught. Electives will have more students, supported classes MIGHT have less, but not always.

This is how middle school classroom teacher positions are allocated:

Classroom teacher positions are provided by
formula [Enrollment x 7 /(class size x 5)]. For
schools with higher FARMS rates, 0.8 FTE is
subtracted from the class size divisor. For each
resource teacher (RT), content specialist, and
team leader position, 0.8 FTE of this calculation
is removed. In addition, 0.8 FTE is added for
reading and a 1.0 FTE is added for mathematics
support. The class size guideline for required
English is 29 students. The class size guideline
for other courses is 32.

If you are trying to compare those schools, they should be basically the same in class sizes for the same type of course. The at-a-glance reports will give you better information about the student population.

Thanks for this. I am trying to compare them to local private and Catholic schools, as well as DC public schools. Which courses have bigger classes and which have smaller classes?

Please note the middle school and grade you are referencing if you can.

I am particularly interested in class sizes at the following middle schools:
-- Tilden
-- Silver Creek
-- Westland
-- North Bethesda
-- Pyle
-- Parkland
