I thought home visits were not allowed?

When my H had a top secret they came by the house and chatted briefly, went to several neighbors and that was it. They didn’t open drawers, dig through closets, etc.

It's just an interview, and it's fairly casual. Granted, it's been nearly two decades (2006) that I went through this for my DH, and I can see why you're worried (I was!), but you have nothing to worry about. No one looked around the house; they came in, sat on the couch and talked to me and left.

I have an idea of the type of job this is -- good luck to him!

This. I've been subject to them for top security clearance and have been interviewed by FBI and CIA for friends and neighbors. This is all they do. they don't go through drawers. They won't even care about wife.

They DID advise that they will be coming in and “looking around” throughout the house. And yes, it’s an in-house employee who will be performing the visit. And yes, I’m the one with the CC information invasion.

Insane. He better be making bank. That is so outrageous.

This! If I told you what his new role was, you’d think it unbelievable and that this was the biggest waste of taxpayer dollars (it’s a state government job.) I work in the aviation industry and have actual clearance to wander about the airport bypassing security and went through less than this.

I have never participated in this OP, so I may not know, but I've done interviews (I am a professor) for a number of students for background investigation. My understanding is that the people who do the background investigations are a separate agency, not the coworkers. I dont know if it is officially confidential, but the point of the background investigation is to pass or not - I am pretty sure they don't pass along the info from all the parts.

It is personally invasive to have someone in your home who you don't know going through your things.
But maybe it's helpful to remember that if you are doing home visits for a living you have seen a lot, and it's unlikely that you will stick out. Like a bigger version of when you buy something weird at the grocery store that could create the wrong impression, the checkout cashier has almost certainly seen it before. Hope this is over with soon and your DH gets the job.

Can’t you just ditch them and buy new sex toys after they leave?

We will be having a random home visit as part of DH background investigation, sometime in the next two weeks. He’s working like crazy (part of the reason he’s leaving his current position) so I’m doing my best to keep everything in order in case they randomly show up one evening. Does anyone have any idea what they will be looking for? Will they do things like look in our bedroom/drawers/cabinets/trunk/luggage (thinking of classic DCUM hiding spots.) I have nothing to hide per se, but I live here too and some things that I own are “private” to me and hidden, and I wouldn’t want his future coworkers (that is who is running his background) to know I have, if that makes sense.

Anyway, if you’ve ever experienced one of these home visits, can you tell me what to expect?
