This happened with my child at U9. The coach kept missing games and asking a parent to fill in as coach. I would definitely make sure the TD is aware. Later we switched to another club - also on 3rd team, if there EVER was a conflict, there was always another coach from the club that would step in and coach the game.

OP here, I know my kid's abilities, but I chose to send him to travel soccer because he likes it and I don't want parent coaches. Even he knows his team is the worst team in the club, there is no need to remind me. I am hesitant on pushing the issue exactly because I know it's just a glorified rec team. But since they took the money they still need to treat us with due respect just like to the members of the first tier team.

I am not trying to get the coach fired or anything, just want to keep this under control.

A coach told me recently that he had been very sick and dealing with that in addition to mutiple teams. They are human. Just like an employee missing work at times. It happens.

I wouldn't say they "often" miss games but unless your child is on the top team of a high school age group they may miss a game here and there.

That's not true. The director should be coming to games if the coach doesn't.

There are plenty of assistant coaches that fill in.

+1 Or they borrow coaches from the same age group or similar. Two DCs at two different big clubs and the director has never filled in.

Our coach only missed games due to an intraclub conflict so the technical director usually knows and is the person making the call about which team the coach should attend.

Usually it's the higher ranked one or the older group one.

Once DC's coach had to miss a tournament game to sub as the coach for their top older team. That was annoying but ordered by the TD who clearly valued a U16 team over a U13 team.

Yes, letting the Technical Director or the Coaching Director know your concern should help to resolve the issue.

But it sounds like your club is short on coaches. Sometimes that occurs when a coach has 3 teams, it's almost impossible for the coach to make all the games for all 3 teams. Also, the game rescheduling process is cumbersome and often reschedule requests cannot be accommodated.

A coach should make most of the games. Hopefully the coach can make the rest of the games. Also, if a coach is going to miss a game, he should e-mail the parents ahead of time explaining the reason and who will be covering for the coach.

Not normal, but some clubs have trouble finding coaches so he may be the best of what they can get. Before you complain and try to get the guy fired, ask yourself if you would be ok with a parent coached team

DS is at the 3rd U9 team at a soccer club. His coach has missed two games this season so far. We are new to travel, our kid is still young, but is this normal? Doesn't feel normal. The sub coaches were nice, but they don't know the kids that well.

My son likes the coach, who has two other teams. How should we bring this to someone's attention? Does complain work? what if he just can't plan around the schedule with three teams? We have no problem with his coaching only his availability.
