It depends on why it's an 82. Remember that there are three components to FCPS grades and a lot of classes haven't had summative assignments, so an 80 on a formative assignment may result in an 82 overall if there are no summative grades yet. But if that 78 is only 1 of 3 tests that will be taken this quarter, and the kid gets As on their summative tests, they'll get an A.

In non-FCPS speak, the kid probably has a B on a quiz and hasn't taken the midterm or final yet, so that B is heavily weighted right now

Sure, it is easily mathematically possible. But he has an 82 on the portion of the year that is a REVIEW of all of the topics learned last year in Precal. If he is struggling with the review material, then it is likely that he will struggle with the new upcoming material.

In AB Calc, doubtful. If he didn’t know the material very well early in the course it gets harder as he goes and has to build on that foundation. He’s probably going to be a solid B / C student in that course.

It depends. If 82 is a result of quizzes, it can be turned around by doing well on tests.

Yes! Use that free tutoring service. Ask the teacher this same question. Also find out from the teacher of any extra credit opportunities.

My daughter brought up a C+ to a B+ so I don’t see why a B could not go up to an A. Granted, she put in a LOT of work and had a tutor for part of the year.

This is a math question that your Calc AB DS should be able to easily answer: Assuming 50% of the grades for the quarter have passed and make up his 82 avg, and assuming 90 avg is good enough for an A which is 8 points higher than his current average, he would need to average a 98 on the remaining 50% of the assignments for the quarter (because 98 is the same distance from 90 as 90 is from 82).

Also, dial it back. You coming here to stress about your kid’s grade in an AP level calc class is not a good look.
