Find out how much it is to remediate - I mean get rid of it completely and entirely so that you feel safe, then ask provide that bill to the current owners and ask them to pay otherwise no deal.

It depends. If you are getting a good deal and house plus location are good, compromises have to be made and you can absorb the cost.

I will buy it with some discount.

Op here: when we viewed the home, there was wood panelling in that portion of the basement that we were told the owner was having taken down. So that happened so we had no clue what was behind the panelling…which is all that mold. We did not realize how bad the subfloor was until the inspection and took the pics of how badly warped and rotted it was. The basement definitely did have a bit of a musty smell but nothing overbearing.

Op here: that is my thoughts. We also were made aware that every time it rains, the basement floods. Hence the mold everywhere but that one wall is horrifying. We were also told remediation is easily $10k+.

i couldn't run fast enough

Run for your life, literally.

My husband and I put an offer on a home and we had our home inspection and some stuff came back awful. The kitchen floor was spongy in some spots and we found out the subfloor from the kitchen to bathroom needs to be replaced due to bad rotting and clear water damage. The subfloor is literally rotting out and warping. There is also a wall in the basement with clear black mold going down the whole wall and black mold was found in multiple other areas of the basement. The basement absolutely has to be remediated. I want to back out of this deal but my husband seems to think these aren’t “super major” issues. There is also potential carpenter ant damage to the siding by the roof and multiple plumbing issues (bathroom sink is leaking and corroded under the sink, a few pipes leaking in basement, etc.)

Attaching pics of basement to see what others think but to me….this is bad.
