Roughly. I would tell them if they asked. My in-laws are super secretive about money compared to mine, and I don’t think it has done them any good.

They have an idea, but not explicitly. My husband is pretty much capped out at his low six figure income, but I have a lot of earning potential - as we increase our HHI I can see myself working to downplay it more. I can already see our income causing some issues, particularly with his family, where we make many times more than any other couple.

It’s not as awesome as I thought it would be when I was broke. Maybe biggie smalls was onto something when he said “mo money, mo problems.”

Parents, ILs, and siblings all don't.

My mom has a rough idea because she was also a fed. Whenever exact savings numbers come up she's always surprised but I think she forgets in 40 and I've had 15 years in the TSP. My in-laws do not and I have had to urgently pantomime "no!" at my husband when he's been on the verge of giving it away (I didn't get a stimulus check and they asked what I'd do with mine) because they're terrible with money and I don't want to be on their radar as a potential loan source.

No. I make more than my parents ever did, and it feels weird to share (even though I think this is what they wanted for me). My parents are very much "it's impolite to discuss money" types anyway.

Yes! My siblings and parents know how much we make, we know how much they make, and we all know to pitch in for important stuff - buying home, weddings of kids, medical, education, funerals.

Are you kidding? Without family lending a hand, we could not have bought homes, kept business running etc.

No. No idea. I doubt they know the name of my employer, even though I've been there a decade.

My mother and her nosy, backstabbing sisters do not, because they would not use the information in a constructive way. My in-laws are a lot more reasonable and I have no problem sharing.

I have tried to build a relationship of trust with my kids such that if ever they have questions or issues, I hope they will come to me for help.

We've never discussed it with them, and never would.

My FIL looked up my salary (I'm a state employee) and made much of knowing it. Classy guy.

I’m a parent of adult kids. I know what most of my kids and their spouses make. Not down to the penny, but I have a good idea. Would you like to know?
