Amazon Basics also sells light puffer jackets, similar to Uniqlo but cheaper. Held up pretty well for my tweens, who wear them daily in the winter.

FWIW, I was just in Costco today admiring the Tommy Hilfigger puffer coats. I think they were like $30. I would have bought one if I didn't already have a new winter coat.

Only jacket my 16 year old will wear is the Patagonia down sweater. Buy one for him every 2 years and then hand it down to his cousin.

Agree with cheap Costco one. My 16 year old wears a jacket maybe twice a winter. I do have another jacket for skiing, but he would never wear that to school or out with friends. He says it's too bulky and since they don't use lockers at school, it needs to be able to fit into his backpack. 95% of the time he just wears a hoodie and he walks to and from school every day.

+1. I always buy my kids' jackets here because it rarely gets so cold they need those super thick ones. And often they get lost and I don't want to fret about a North Face or Marmot getting lost.

This. Plus I did buy him a used Lands End waterproof parka on Poshmark or Ebay for snow several years ago (he likes to go sledding when we actually have enough snow.) That has fit him for the last 3y and I anticipate a few more years left in it and I think I paid $40 for it.
