Op
Thanks all.

Your entertaining commentary helped my husband understand that it is okay to give cash/check to young couple today!

I could sit around and wait for my husband to do something, but I am having a “get it done” weekend.

I currently have my husband crawling under the house to change the water filter!

Thanks again for keeping me up to date on modern etiquette!

If he won't send a check, then send a gift card. Don't try to read their minds and get a gift they have to waste time returning or end up regifting. Really though a check is better than gift card. They can use the money absolutely anywhere and not be forced to use a store they don't like-even Amazon is annoying.

Yeah for real if this is your husband’s problem then it’s your husband’s problem.

OMG.

This is a person that is connected to your family via your HUSBAND, and he’s the one who doesn’t want to give cash but YOU are the one crowd sourcing a solution to this problem?? You’re a doormat.

“Alright honey, whatever you want to send them is fine with me.”

Done.

Then let him do the figuring out, purchasing, and sending. Problem solved.

Especially since this is his friend's child.

OP here. My husband, annoyingly, won’t do cash!

A check op. You don’t send cash.

Cash will be the most useful in this situation. Don’t buy stuff that they may not want or need.

Fwiw, when we got married a couple of people went off registry and got movie tickets and restaurant gift cards. Both were super fun although cash is good too (and my hunch what they want).

This is the exact situation for gifting cash! What's wrong with that??

Youngish (groom is 30, wife ??) couple with a no registry wedding. They live in Philadelphia in a small apartment.

Can’t attend and don’t really want to send cash. Groom is son of a close friend of my husband, so want to do something nice, about $200.

I really don’t know much about them.

Please help!!!
