US Head gave these numbers at BTSN last week.

Where are you guys getting the 600 number for US, when each grade (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th) is capped at 135 for a max of 540? Also - class size is capped at 15, which our dd never had - usually 7-8 students per class (mostly APs). She is also quirky, not sporty, and made life-long friends. We are not wealthy, and not from Potomac

Agree that the upper school is way too big. Not sure when the school will stop accepting almost all applicants but it feels crowded and is losing its sense of community.

I can second this whole-heartedly.

My ADHD child has received great support in middle school. They really work on getting your child to the point where they are advocating for themselves. The teachers are very responsive and make themselves available to provide extra review and help, when needed. Class size is around 14. They do cap the number of students that need learning support so that may be a question to ask.

Class size for us was about 70 kids in the grade in middle school, and then it doubles for Upper School. The actual class size stays small (he has 10 kids in his Spanish class now, maybe 14 in Science in US), but the larger grade is nice because it helps people find their groups, and fill up all the extracurricular opportunities that are available.

My quirky kid did find his people at Bullis. Definitely big sporty crowd there, but none of his friends really play a sport, he likes technical theater (there are a lot of music opportunities too) and the STEM classes are out of sight. As other poster mentioned, truly awesome learning support in the middle school. Upper School also has tons of support opportunities, but they do encourage them to seek help out themselves more (which the middle school has prepped them to do), so you have to ask to really see everything that is there.

Unfortunately the Upper school has grown from 400 to 600 students and we are less than thrilled. My kids are happy as they have found their people, but it is super cliquey. One child will graduate soon and we are already thinking about possibly moving our other when the oldest graduates. We are not happy with how quickly it has grown without a plan in place first. It’s a bit of a mess.

That said, the Middle school learning specialists are phenomenal as is the support in upper school.

Mine did not, at least in the upper school. There are a lot of uber-wealthy Potomac kids and we found it too be too cliquey. Also many Chinese kids who stuck together. Maybe if my kid had been interested in theater? We left after one year.

Our child switched in HS from public. Not ADHD, but anxiety, and Bulis has been great. Had support from counselors and teachers. Can't speak to MS because we moved in HS, but class sizes was 7-15 (compare to 30+ at our public). Every student has a study hall every day - you can do homework or go to meet with a teacher for extra help.
