Does it matter if there are several years in between? Ie, turning down a spot for 6th and applying again in 9th.

Sometimes schools have space, sometimes they don't. Sometimes child has issues, sometimes those issues are resolved.

I do not know of any case where that happened.

PP here that had two schools reach out. I think what helped is I called both admission directors and had very honest feedback. None of it was negative, it was just what they had/didn't have that our son didn't like, need, or want. Every school can't be everything for each kid and they know that. I think what also helped was we did this as soon as DS made decision which was well before the deadline. We didn't feel it was right to hold a spot that they could immediately offer to someone on a waitlist.

We had a two schools reach back out after we turned them down to let us know that if a time ever came where we needed/wanted to switch he was always welcome. Both were competitive schools.

I know someone who's pre-k kid was offered admission right after COVID began. They communicated to the school that due to high risk factors, they were going to homeschool. They are now at that school. That's the only example I know of, though

I haven’t heard of anyone, but I think it depends on the reason for turning down the school. If for example the school wasn’t able to offer aid (or enough aid), I think that would be ok. Same if the family moved, etc.

Has anyone heard of a student getting an offer of admission after turning down acceptance in prior year? Under what circumstances? Thanks in advance.
