I take real issue with the word "redneck" as a pejorative. It still seems acceptable in 2023 to mock a person for having a southern accent and for using that word. Posters should stop.

He has an accent, but it's not Southern. Listen to the way he says water and oil. So, it appears to be a regional Maryland accent.

It’s an old time rural Maryland twang. It almost sounds like the old East Baltimore accent crossed with the rural eastern shore twang.

It doesn’t sound like a typical Maryland red neck accent you hear in Frederick/Damascus/etc which is a little more twangy I agree it’s different.

First, thanks for the educational video. I enjoyed it. I’m not even kidding.

He does not have a typical Maryland accent. To my ear it sounds like a faded southern accent maybe paired with a medical issue.

Oh yeah, that’s definitely a rural Maryland accent. Perhaps he’s also had some other issue that slows the cadence of his words. But you can hear that Maryland accent.

I agree with this - it just sounds southern and not particularly the delaware county pa/lower delaware/ that I was expecting. Not hearing any of that in "go, over, etc. - long O has a particular sound in those accents.

“Real” Marylanders have an accent that, to my West Coast ear, sound a lot like a Philly accent. My parents live in rural-ish MD.

Well... we haven't heard this man speak so it will be hard to say if it is a typical accent for the area.

I was watching this video about grain elevators (Yes, I was.. the term came up in class today and the kids asked me what it was and I wasn't really sure). At about 40 seconds in, this man starts speaking with an accent i have never heard before. Is it typical for someone in a rural area outside of Frederick MD?
