It’s also recently been linked to Alzheimers and cancer prevention.

Same.

I take extended release 10mg and don't feel groggy. But, OP, I think you should try less. I'm a lifelong insomnia, so need the extra oomph.

You are not supposed to take melatonin every day. I take it occasionally and it doesn’t make me groggy.

7.5mg of melatonin?!

NP - is that bad? I take 30mg every night. Wake up at 6am every morning just fine.

Because melatonin is also a hormone.

I went through a dumb lower back injury earlier this year that turned into a stress cycle that didn’t want to end. I tried melatonin and it made me groggy. I eventually started with the magnesium citrate for the muscle soreness benefits and only recently realized it helps with sleep for many people. My sleep is as good as it’s ever been with a very high volume of training. Tons of which is immediately in the morning after waking up.

I’d give the magnesium a try.

Take less and take it at dinner time.

I take 10mg (per the bottle) and feel the same when I wake up as when I don't take it. Maybe you need to get used to it.

I took magnesium and it helped more without the grogginess. I get up at 4:30 to workout. I have maintained my workout schedule for 2 years. The key really is to make sure you get 7 hours of sleep a night, so make sure you go to bed early.

I would take less melatonin. Do you take hard pills that you can cut in half? Or maybe you’re taking 2 pills and can take 1.

Do magnesium glycinate capsules in addition, or if you like, in place of melatonin.

I just started taking 2.5 mg of melatonin to help with menopausal sleep struggles. The melatonin is helping with sleep (yay!) but boy did I feel groggy this morning and my morning run was a slog every single step (ugh).

Maybe I prefer to exercise when I’ve had crappy sleep vs melatonin sleep?
