If the alert shows a problem (very low grade, missing item, etc.) I show DC and have _DC_ figure it out and fix it, whether that means choosing a (permitted) resubmission, asking in class, or emailing a teacher. DC has ADHD and prefers to use Canvas as an everything checklist, which works some of the time but not always.

That’s often more accurate than the canvas calendar which often only shows assignments that can be completed in canvas. You should also check synergy (called parentvue). which is the official gradebook. It’s frustrating hut keep in mind those 6th grade grades don’t count for anything. The goal is to use these 3 years to get your kids in a place where they are able to track all this themselves.
Canvas is just one tool — it’s not the official gradebook and it can’t be used for all assignments. Teachers also can’t enter different dates for different class periods, I think. It’s not a great program and neither the kids nor teachers love it, but it is the market dominant program for a variety of reasons. I’m in my 7th year dealing with it as a parent and I’m finally coming to a place of peace with it. But don’t blame the teachers—they didn’t write the software.

It still feels like being "gaslit" when Canvas doesn't match the agenda book and the kid does't know which is correct, and the kid is the one gets consequences for guessing wrong, while the teachers can make a hash of it with no consequences.

Anonymous wrote:How to you deal with Canvas in Middle School? I ask my kid if homework is done, and they have no idea because Canvas has a mix of homework, school work, and tests, and half the due dates are wrong because the teachers got off schedule, and half the assignments don't have instructions and just threaten to give out 0s for unsubmitted work.
