Um, I beg to differ. It isn't always clothes or accessories. It's the classmates who drive expensive cars and take expensive vacations. There was someone in one of the fraternities who crashed his mercedes while drunk and daddy bought the kid a new beamer to replace it. One of my classmates looked at me in horror when I revealed I spent my first couple years living in a trailer (a time I don't remember much about because I was 3 when we moved into a house with a big yard).

That is insane. I was full pay in the 90s when it only cost $20K/year.

This is an example of why Wake, Vanderbilt, Tulane, etc. dropped in the USNWR rankings. These schools don’t have a lot of poor, first generation kids taking out Pell grants. However, they do offer a great education with small class size, professors with PHDs, lots of really smart kids with high stats. You need to decide what is important to your family when researching schools.

Yes. My kid really liked Wake and is also applying to Vanderbilt and Tulane (visiting next month). I definitely understand and value things like terminal degrees and small class size. We are full pay.

I knew it was wealthy- I was just surprised that it was that wealthy.

Without doing any research, I do recall WFU as being need-aware", but that may have changed over the past two years.

My guess is that if they don't brag about being need-blind, they're probably need-aware.

But I have no facts to back this up.
