Most travel teams in the U8 NCSL do a futsal league over the winter. Either the elite at St. James or another program that was at NOVA last winter.

Of course, if we have another warm winter this year -- could probably do normal training outdoors.

Is this your first year in travel? A lot of the travel teams sign up for a futsal league in the winter like the St James one. Futsal is good for the kids’ development. Ask your coach or age group rep what the plan is. I know CYA runs an indoor game only league at their field house but I’m pretty sure it’s for non travel players only. And I agree that basketball is great cross training. Fun for the kids to play with school friends and some of the skills carry over. My child’s travel coach noticed an improvement in DC’s soccer IQ after basketball season.

The Saint James has a futsal program you can try out for. My kids have enjoyed that. Play games on the weekends against other futsal teams. I think the Fairfax Sportsplex has open teams as well. Not sure on the skill level though.

Vienna Youth Soccer does a full outdoor rec league called Frosty Fields. It’s in January and February. It’s low pressure and fun for the kids. A few travel players will play, but mostly just rec.

There's a winter league at South Run field house in Springfield, but it's team based and not something you sign up as a one off with them. You could reach out to the teams that have signed up though.

You want futsal. Lots of clubs field futsal teams, I would ask your coach if they plan to play.
